Heads up, everybody! You have 12 days left to read On Beauty by Zadie Smith.
Our first Virtual Book Club meeting will be on Monday, 15 January. Karin offered to set up a LiveJournal community for the purpose some time ago, but I was all distracted and never got back to her about it. I don’t know if she is still interested in doing so, or if she has the time. Unless people make a lot of virtual noise about their preferences regarding format or location, I suggest we go ahead with the first meeting here at La Petite Banane, and then see if we feel we would like a change.
I also think it’s high time we pick a book for February. I read far more slowly than I used to, and I need some time to get through a whole book.
If there are no suggestions by this time tomorrow, I will nominate someone to choose the next book.
Happy reading!

Ready for the first meeting! Finished the book over Christmas holiday. (You can tell that I do not have small children LOL)
I have just picked up “Little Earthquakes” by Jennifer Weiner to read as filler until the next book is chosen — so that could be a suggestion.

A friend just recommended “No Great Mischief” by Alistair MacLeod. I read the blurb on the Chapters website and it sounds really good.

I’m not a member of this book club (yet, maybe in the future), but I just had to add my two cents re Ginnie’s suggestion…I’ve read “No Great Mischief” a few times. It is excellent, and anyone who hasn’t read it should. I’m serious. As an English grad who has read hundreds of books (many of them Canadian) over the past two and a half decades, I highly recommend it. Happy reading, whatever book you choose.
